Box Project

For this project I used clay to construct an earthy slab box. To add depth to the surface, I used subtractive texture for the cracks and rifts in the base wood, and additive texture for the vines. There is movement on all 4 sides that can be seen through the transition between vines. All sides have different transitioning cracks and rifts in the wood that guide the eye. I am really proud of how I glazed the project and how I constructed the vines and cracks. One challenge I faced during this process was the subtracting of the cracks, but I overcame it by thinking of ways to make it look natural. Through the process of making my box, I learned how to better subtract and attach smaller, more detailed objects. If I could create my box again, I would've added another more creative element that stood out from the rest of the box.
